Positive Peace

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending Positive Peace with Patricia Garcia AO, hosted by the UTS BUILD program. This two-hour introductory workshop explored the 8 Pillars of Positive Peace, a framework developed by the Institute for Economics & Peace.
Through a powerful hands-on activity (pictured in this post), we connected each pillar — like access to information, equitable resource distribution, and good governance — to real-world issues and discussed possible solutions. As we passed around string to symbolise the connections between ideas, we created a spider web that clearly showed how interconnected and interdependent these pillars are. If one thread weakens, the entire structure begins to collapse.
This visual and interactive method really drove home the message: peace isn't just the absence of conflict — it's the presence of systems that support equity, resilience, and justice. Collaboration, systems thinking, and holistic solutions are key.
Grateful to have learned from Patricia Garcia AO and BUILD UTS — and inspired to keep thinking about peace as a proactive, collective effort.
