About Frederikke “Freddy” Thorup

Frederikke Thorup is a Sydney-based creative and business student whose work spans across visual arts, design, and independent brand development. Originally from Denmark and raised in Australia, Freddy has spent the last decade navigating the convergence of artistic experimentation, self-expression, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Her early education in fine arts laid the foundation for a deeply personal creative practice rooted in collage, colour, saturation, and layered media. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School in 2019, majoring in Printmaking, where her work explored non-linear thinking, surreal contrasts, and maximalist aesthetics. Freddy’s pieces are expressive and intuitive — often produced in long, focused sessions that serve as a grounding and meditative process, especially important in contrast to her highly structured, analytical thought patterns.

As a neurodivergent creative, Freddy brings a unique cognitive approach to her work, one shaped by what she refers to as “spiderweb thinking” the ability to forecast multiple outcomes, observe fine-grained details, and mentally map systems from different angles. While this mental framework can be socially and sensorily demanding, it informs her deep curiosity and methodical mindset.

In 2025, Freddy returned to university to study a Bachelor of Business at UTS — a decision driven by curiosity, confidence, and a desire to expand her creative foundation into something broader and more strategic. With over a decade of experience in retail, particularly within beauty and customer experience, she approached her studies with clarity and purpose: to challenge herself, grow new skills, and build a more versatile toolkit.

Although she didn’t study business in high school and came in with limited maths experience, Freddy embraced the learning curve — diving into subjects ranging from marketing and psychology to economics and data analytics.

Freddy is now exploring career paths such as consulting, where her creative mindset, analytical thinking, and lived experience combine to offer a distinctive and human-centred perspective. For her, business isn’t a shift away from creativity — it’s a framework to strengthen it, organise it, and reimagine how it can work in the world.

Her portfolio now spans mixed media painting, digital collage, photography direction, product design, and communications. In addition to her personal work, Freddy is the founder and creative director behind Neon Phase — a project that has evolved from apparel design into a wider platform for multidisciplinary exploration.
