What is a "Neon Phase"?
Neon Phase refers to the contemporary Renaissance, the technology age we live in currently. Freddy has had a fascination with the European Renaissance and the art that was produced during the 15 c. At this time Artists & scientists rose to the top as visionaries and prophets who spread their messages through pictorial images and detailed symbolism. Not a religious person herself, she still was interested in the power of art of that time, and the reoccurring motifs and characters that are now ingrained in history (example: Virgin Mary, Classical Greek mythological characters like Athena & Hades).
Looking at todays world, Freddy believes there has been a second coming renaissance - in the westernised world. The introduction of technology has lead to massive changes in communication and advertisement. Comparing the moral stories being told in the Renaissance period to the clearly targeted media output of the 21st Century, theres some clear common themes and reoccurring goals: To tell a story, spotlight an 'important' individual & to brainwash.
So simply, Neon Phase is the title given to this 21st Century Renaissance period. Neon (the element and product) being a contemporary discovery is a great example of human accomplishment in the advancements in technology & science. Neon lights have always been a personal symbol to Freddy as she sees how they shine so vibrantly, casting a hued tone on all surfaces, literally affecting its surroundings in a fun and colourful way. To Freddy Neon lights symbolise the kind of person she wants to be, she wants to cast her light out to the world and make life more vivid.
What can I expect from Neon Phase in the future?
First release for Neon Phase will be a black ‘dad hat’. This brand will branch into many unique products such as t-shirts, Phone cases and stickers/art. Any way of communicating a visual, Neon Phase hopes to try it out. Digital galleries of content will be uploaded and updated.
In the future I see the Neon Phase brand being a platform for me to show my other creative endeavours such as makeup art, photo direction & social media work. Also being a place where people can look at my art in detail and read the deeper meanings of each artwork as well as learning the symbolism placed in each work.
